Introduction

This interactive dashboard brings together a variety of data on life in Northern Ireland. Statistics have primarily been sourced from across Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency. However, where NISRA data are not available, data from other sources have been included.

This page explains how to navigate the dashboard, change the statistics shown in the visualisation, and access the data published in the NISRA Data Portal. The dashboard is fully interactive. This means that clicking on buttons/tabs will change the data shown in the charts but will not interfere with the overall working of the dashboard.

Themes

The Dashboard provides data across three themes: Economy, Environment and Social. Visualisations by each theme can be viewed by clicking on the relevant tab on the top left-hand corner of the dashboard as shown in the screenshot below.

Charts

With the Economy tab selected, the first visualisation in the dashboard relates to the Northern Ireland Composite Index.

The chart shows the overall composite index, however, the data shown in the chart can be changed as indicated by the presence of the dropdown box at the top of the chart. By clicking on the arrows to the right of the box, the available options will be shown. In this case you can change the data in the chart to show the composite index for individual sectors including Private, Public, Services, Production and Construction. By clicking on a category, the chart will change to reflect data for the chosen category.

The date shown below the chart represents the date the data was last updated on the NISRA Data Portal. Clicking on the link on the bottom right of the chart will take you to the relevant table on the NISRA Data Portal where the data, metadata and contact details of the data producer can be found. Data can also be downloaded from the Portal.

Any notes and links relating to the table, if relevant, can also be found below the chart.

Some charts contain more than one dropdown box, so you can select the combination of data that suits your needs. Some charts do not have any dropdown boxes, therefore, there will be no option to change the data shown on the chart.

Multiple categories are shown for some charts. For example, if you scroll down the page to the chart titled “Sales: Value of trade by trade partner”, the chart contains information by trade partner.

Any category you don’t want displayed can be removed by clicking on one of the countries in the legend at the bottom of the chart. For example, by clicking on Rest of Europe Union and Rest of World, the chart only shows data for Northern Ireland, Great Britain and Ireland. Clicking on a category a second time will display the data in the chart again. This feature also works with line charts when more than one category is displayed.

Maps

Some data is presented in map format. For example, if you click on the Environment tab at the top of the dashboard, the second indicator is a map relating to Greenhouse Gas Emissions. The data presented in the map can also be changed due to the presence of the dropdown boxes at the top of the map. The map is by Local Government District. You can zoom in and out of the map by clicking on the box on the top left-hand side of the map, using the + or - icons you can view the map in full screen mode by clicking on the full screen icon below the - icon.

The date the data was last updated on the Data Portal is presented in the box to the right of the map as well as the link to the table on the NISRA Data Portal where the data can be viewed and downloaded and contact information found.

Any notes and links relating to the table, if relevant, can also be found below the map.

Contact information

If you have any queries regarding the indicators in the dashboard, you can contact the data owners. Contact details can be found in the table published in the portal, with the link to the table given below each visualisation. If you have any queries regarding issues with the dashboard, please contact NISRA by email.
