Notes

  1. Assessed requests are defined as payment requests that have been either paid or queried with the relevant supplier.↩︎

  2. Weeks to Assess 95% of requests are based upon time lapsed between date of request submission and date paid or initially queried.↩︎

  3. All Paid requests are defined as requests that have been Determined or Rejected within the presented time period regardless if they have been queried with the supplier.↩︎

  4. Paid excluding Queried requests are defined as requests that have been Determined or Rejected within the presented time period and have not been previously queried with supplier.↩︎

  5. Excludes payments on Criminal Court of Appeal cases.↩︎

  6. The Unassessed status relates to payments that have yet to be paid or queried with the supplier for further information to complete the payment.↩︎

  7. The Queried status relates to payments yet to be paid and where the supplier has been contacted for further information to complete the payment.↩︎

  8. A breakdown of Criminal payments received, by court tier, was not produced prior to September 2020 and therefore is not presented in Figure 6. Due to the limitations brought about by a live case management system, any effort to retrospectively estimate previous monthly breakdowns would result in a discontinuity between the cumulative total and the actual total presented for all criminal in Figure 6.↩︎

  9. A breakdown of Criminal payments paid, by court tier, was not produced prior to April 2023 and therefore is not presented in Figure 9. Due to the limitations brought about by a live case management system, any effort to retrospectively estimate previous monthly breakdowns would result in a discontinuity between the cumulative total and the actual total presented for all criminal in Figure 9.↩︎

  10. Percentages may not sum to 100 due to rounding.↩︎

  11. Data relates to rejected payment requests that had a reason recorded against the payment request outcome (185 of 261 rejections; 70.9%).↩︎

  12. Includes all requests, irrespective of whether they have been queried with the supplier during the assessment process.↩︎

  13. Excludes requests that have had one or more queries raised during the assessment process.↩︎

  14. The Amendment request KPI has been updated to exclusively encompass case ‘structural’ requests that could influence case progression. Previously, it included Additional Documentation requests, which serve as a means for suppliers to submit further documentation.↩︎

  15. Civil applications are adjudicated by LSANI. The number Awaiting Determination at each month end is an accumulation of those received in preceding months along with the latest month and have either been queried with the requestor or awaiting assessment.↩︎

  16. Criminal legal aid is granted by NICtS and cases are retrospectively transferred to LAMS. For the purposes of the dashboard, criminal applications are automatically considered as completed upon receipt by LSANI.↩︎

  17. Includes application requests where the request outcome has been granted, refused, escalated from Advice and Assistance to Rep Lower or is Undetermined.↩︎

  18. Figures based on the month in which requests are completed do not necessarily reflect the month they were received. Not all requests submitted in a particular month will be completed within that same month. Monthly figures are not retrospectively revised.↩︎

  19. Excludes requests for Exceptional Preparation as these are captured at Figure 21. Authority requests in relation to Interpreters and Level of Representation are included. Authority requests cover for example.

    * A & A – authority/experts (printing costs, medical notes, PACE travel and mileage), extensions (advice, letters/emails) and interpreter/translation requests.

    * Criminal – authorities/experts (medical reports, medical experts and other experts such as psychologists/engineers etc.) and interpreter/translation requests.

    * EF – experts and outlays i.e. photocopying.↩︎

  20. These data are based on expense items. It is possible for multiple authorities to be requested within a single request. Where this has occurred, each authority has been counted separately.↩︎
